US equity markets closed the session in positive territory with the NASDAQ 100 outperforming other US indices. Priceline was one of the best performers in the NASDAQ after their earnings after market on Thursday. Health Care was the best performing sector in the US, led higher by a number of M&A stories for pharmaceutical companies. Actavis (+11.8%) announced they were in talks to with Warner Chilcott (+20.7%) over a potential transaction and there was also talk Swiss pharma Roche could make an USD 88 per share bid for Illumina. However the move in Illumina shares was pared just before the close as a Roche spokesperson denied the news. Heading into the close, equity markets made another leg higher with a large buy side imbalance seen. Finally, the DJIA finished up 0.22% at 15116.18, the S&P 500 finished up 0.42% at 1633.57 and the NASDAQ 100 finished up 0.67% at 2981.02. For the week; the DJIA finished up 0.96%, NASDAQ 100 1.24% & S&P 500 1.19%
