US equity markets closed the session with modest gains as sentiment has been lifted by yesterday’s positive earnings report from Alcoa after-market. In individual stocks news, Seagate closed the session up over 6.5% after announcing their Q2 preliminary revenue is to beat expectations after-market yesterday. Facebook shares also closed the session with gains of over 5% amid optimism that the company will benefit from new advertising efforts to drive revenue. Previous downside to Facebook’s shares had come as investors appeared sceptical over whether the company can generate sales from advertising however this appears to have alleviated some of these fears somewhat. Finally, the DJIA finished up 0.46% at 13390.74, the S&P 500 finished up 0.26% at 1460.96 and the NASDAQ 100 finished up 0.33% at 2727.65.
