The former head of Westpac’s retail and business bank, Rob Coombe, is on the short list of candidates for the top job at Stockland (SGP AT)

- Mr Coombe left Westpac a year ago after a 20-year career with the bank and its wealth manager BT, following a shake-up of chief executive Gail Kelly’s front bench. He would be a “left-field” candidate from outside the top echelon of property executives.

- But Stockland’s chairman, Graham Bradley, has stressed that the search for the next chief executive would look beyond property, and particularly to the finance sector.
